How to Organize Your Home Desk

Whether you’re studying or running your own business from home, having a desk that is organised and appealing is super important in keeping that motivation running high! Here are some simple ways to really make your desk pop!

Wire Grid

Wire grids that can be hung from the wall are super in!

My personal conclusion is that wire grids can hold anything, AND still manage to look fancy.

They don’t overcrowd your space and can hang neatly above your work desk, which is a great way to save space in your apartment if it’s a little on the small side (read how to make your small apartment/space look big!)

I’ve seen grids hold:

  • Polaroids of treasured moments
  • Fairy lights
  • Bright color scarve
  • Dress shirts
  • Fake vines
  • Dried flowers

Even little nic-nacs such as:

  • Sunglasses
  • Bright chunky jewelry
  • Flashy watches

It is an option full of infinite possibilities and creativity.

Feature Chair

Who said that your chair has to conform to being black and ‘office-y’?

Don’t get me wrong it should always be comfortable, but how about spicing things up in your work life?

Try adding a chair that features bright colors, courageous textures and/or bold patterns.

If you already have a bland desk chair, try adding a throw of the same description to liven the place up.

Always make sure it fits in with your color scheme- if you get stuck, read this article on how to create a color scheme for your home.

Pot Plants

Plants are scientifically proven to have a calming effect on the human psyche– so what better place to put them than your work desk?

They look great, they filter the toxins out of the air and provide sweet, sweet oxygen (which I’m not sure if you know, but you need to live.)

The goal here is easy-to-maintain pot plants that need minimal light to survive.

You’re running a work space, not a plant torture chamber.

Ideal plants for this environment include:

  • Peace lilies
  • Devil’s ivy
  • Succulents.

Going one step further, you can always choose to paint the pots cute colors or knit colorful cosies for them.

Wall Art

Want to add beautiful wall art- without the hundred dollar price tag?

Adorning cheap $2-$10 photo frames with printable wall art is become increasingly popular.

There are plenty of websites where you can download printable wall art for free, including: Feed Your Soul, Oh So Lovely and Chicfetti.

Websites such as Little Gold Pixel have some fantastic inspirational posters, and (my personal favorite) quotes that express your love for coffee!

Don’t hold back, espresso yourself!

Feature pieces

I have come across some great feature pieces for your work desk, that really accentuate your space.

Quirky bookends in the shape of pineapples, unicorns, t-rexs, pot plants and much more have begun to emerge in office around the world- and I love it!

Other great feature pieces include patterned or large desk lamps, fancy clocks, incense and even old telephones.
